Women’s Munster Junior Cup 2nd Round result

Sunday 23rd April

Charleville AFC 3 Riverstown 0

(Chloe O Brien, Beth Stapleton 2)

Charleville Ladies have had a run of big fixtures throughout the month of April and none bigger as they welcomed last year’s Women’s Munster Junior Cup Champions Riverstown of Cork. After beating the losing finalist Springfield Ramblers in the last round another stiff challenge was in store.

Charleville started very brightly and were rewarded very quickly with a headed goal by Chloe O Brien after 5 minutes on the clock. After an in swinging corner and a superb header won by Roisin O Riordan was goal bound only for a fine stop by the Riverstown goal keeper but she was only able to parry it to Chloe O Brien who headed home from six yards.

The game stayed one nil at the break to the relief of Charleville, as Riverstown got control of the game midway through the first half and dominated a lot of possession but couldn’t make ends meet in the final third of the pitch.

Charleville upped the work rate in the second half and a brace of goals from Beth Stapleton put the game to bed,  after a well worked move from midfield found Beth alone in the box and a lovely dink over the goalkeeper for her second of the game and sealing the result. Charleville now await the Munster Quarter Final draw to see there faith this week.

U14 League Cup Last 16 vs Holycross

Double Glory still shines bright for Charleville U14s

Charleville 4 vs Holycross 2

Last Saturday evening, Charleville U14s lined out for their U14 Cup fixture against a strong Holycross opposition with 2 cups still within their grasp(League and League Cup)

Charleville started the game extremely well and were moving the ball very well throughout the pitch

Charleville lined out with a 4:2:3:1 formation

The Charleville team adhered to the coaching plan and were deserved scorers after 10minutes due to an OG. However after about 20 minutes Holycross drew level due to a catalogue of errors by Charleville in the lead up to their goal

Charleville however stayed with their plan and gradually dominated their way back into the game and were rewarded before halftime with a further goal by Bryan Nagy

Charleville now settled and were playing their best football of the season and were justly rewarded when Bryan Nagy converted from a super through pass by Gary McAuliffe.

Shortly afterwards Holcross were rewarded a penalty after a handball by Mark Power bringing the game to 3-2 up for Charleville

7 minutes later a great through ball found Brian Nagy again who outpowered the Holycross Defender and fired home past the Goalkeeper to firmly keep the tie in Charleville’s favour

The game thus finished with a 4-2 home victory and super result for Charleville U14s

It was a tremendous performance and has shown the development and strength of the lads as the season has progressed
