Women’s FAI Amateur Cup 1st Round
Killenaule/Moyglass (0) 1
Charleville AFC (1) 4
Scorers (Aoife McNamara, Sophie Hudner, Alex O Keeffe, OG)
Charleville Ladies began on the road again in this year Women’s FAI National after a successful and memorable campaign last year to the Quarter Final Stage. This time the ladies travelled to Killenaule in Tipperary were they faced current Premier Tipperary Ladies champions and last years Munster Semi Finalist. A huge challenge was in store.
Charleville started the game in good spirit and offered the early attacking options down both flanks but Killenaule stopped clear cut goal chances. The might of Tipp got the Killenaule ladies going and soon they were into the game creating opportunities through their number 9 but nothing clear cut to danger Chloe Keogh. As the game wore on the middle of the field became a vital challenge for both teams and Charleville seemed to be getting the better and middle way through the first half Aoife McNamara opened the scoring with a thundering 30 yard effort which the keeper couldn’t hold onto and ended up in the back of the net. Charleville lead one nil at the break.
Charleville pushed on in the second half and added a second through so hard pressure on the Killenaule back line cause the defender to slice the ball into her own net after a superb ball played across the box. Killenaule/Moyglass number nine as mentioned offered the most and the tall centre forward eventually got her due as she contacted with a delightful corner and headed it over Chloe Keogh into the Charleville net. Game back on now and it was nip and tuck. The substitute bench was emptied on the Charleville side and moments later a fast paced attack through Amy Fowley down the wing got the cross in and Beth Stapleton made the keeper work only to parry it out to Sophie Hudner who added the third of the game for Charleville. Alex O Keeffe sealed the game in the final moments with a stunning header from a corner as her normal trade mark goal.
A solid performance by the ladies on the road and build up next round tie with league rival Breska Rovers in Clarina on March 26th.

U12 Girls Premier
Charleville AFC 0 Aisling Annacotty 1
We hosted Annacotty on a sunny afternoon in Charleville. This was a great advertisement for underage girls football with little to seperate the sides throughout and great skill and determination shown by both sides. Annacottys late goal on the counter attack is all that separated the sides in a game that could have gone either way.
Annacotty dominated the early exchanges with our girls sitting deep and soaking up the pressure. Our defence put in another fine display under the leadership of centre back Ruth Kilcommins and this line is improving with every game. Once the girls competed more in midfield midway through the first half the game turned in Charlevilles favour and the girls started to dominate play with excellent passing exchanges. Lauren was pivotal to this momentum change and along with Lucy Keane both were very deserving of the joint player of the match award. Lucy in goals has come such a long way as our netminder and today was her most composed performance with shots flying into her gloves throughout the game. Celina worked her socks off and was excellent out wide, making great driving runs to relieve pressure and set up good attacks. Other great moments were Emma and Bronagh’s driving runs through midfield, Hazel and Stephanie magically finding space with great skill out wide and Lily almost finding the net late on with a great shot.
Both Charleville coaches felt that this game signified the great progress this team has made with this their finest display to date. A big thanks to the parents who have been fantastic supporters of this team.

Plenty of goals and super saves giving the supporters from both clubs plenty to cheer about. Always a fantastic atmosphere at this venue, it has been a super pitch for the club for many many years now.
