*Sunday 27th November * *Limerick Desmond Ladies League result* Newcastle West 1 Charleville AFC 3 Scorers Michelle Jones 19mins, 30mins, Siobhan O Hara 21mins penalty
Charleville Ladies got back to winning ways on Sunday with a three goals to one win away to Newcastle West. The rain stayed away for the game which helped both teams play so fast vibrant football and it was Newcastle West who started best with a goal 5 minutes into the game. A long range effort from their captain caught goalkeeper Chloe Keogh out who done well to get two finger tips to it but not enough to keep the ball from going over the line.
Charleville Ladies had to pick up the tempo as Newcastle West boasted by the early goal staged most of the possession. It wasn’t until 19 minutes in until Charleville completely began to gain control as Michelle Jones got her first goal of the game after being the only player on the pitch to follow in a free kick and pounce on the Newcastle West goalkeeper fumbling the ball. Two minutes later Chloe O Brien was brought down in the Newcastle West box after some great footwork. Siobhan O Hara stepped up and coolly slotted the ball passed the goalkeeper to put Charleville to the lead.
The third goal came 10 minutes later when Michelle Jones got her second after some great build up play in the centre of the park between Mairead Shinnick and Aoife McNamara who released Fiona Nelligan who supplied a great cross to the box for Michelle to pass the ball into the back of the net. Charleville remained firm and went in at the whistle three goals to one.
Charleville started the second half the way they finished the first and controlled the game from then on. A solid back five including Roisin O Riordan, Laura Dundon (capt), Alex O Keeffe, Siobhan O Hara and goalie Chloe Keogh kept Newcastle West at bay and their chances to single digits.
Cayleigh McNamara and Michelle Jones supplied great width supplying balls to Chloe O Brien and Fiona Nelligan up front. Mairead Shinnick and Aoife McNamara contained the flow of the game from the centre of the park. Charleville could have won more comfortable but couldn’t capitalise in front of goals. The changes were rung and all supplied great energy with Rejoy Asante and Sarah Hegarty also close to getting on to the score sheet.
