This week we caught up with our ladies team captain Kelly McNamara for her thoughts ahead of the Limerick ladies Desmond cup final v Abbeyfeale on Sunday 26th in Clounreask, Askeathon, Kick off 12pm.

On how the squad has performed throughout the season.

“The season began with high spirits after narrowly missing out on the league last year and being misfortunate in a cup final. The league did not go in our favour this year but the girl’s attitudes remained high and we continued fighting. We saw the FAI competition as an opportunity to play against stronger teams and to improve our skills. This competition was a turning point in our season as it gave us more confidence and strengthened our bond as a team. We worked hard and grew as players allowing us to beat Abbeyfeale and enter Ireland’s last 8. The confidence this gave us allowed us to finish the league with higher spirits and have the ability to reach this cup final”

On the new sponsorship the team have received and professionalism it has brought to the players, team and match day.

“This season we kindly received jerseys and gear sponsored by O’Hallorans energy solutions and also received hoodies sponsored soul on fire. This sponsorship gave the team a sense of professionalism and brought the group closer together. John and Marie have continued to support us in every game and have been a great addition to our team”

On the chance to represent and lead the team throughout the season.

“It was a pleasure representing this team and leading them throughout the season. The girls never gave up no matter what the situation and made my job very easy. I really enjoyed the past few months and hopefully we can finish this season on a high”

On what a trophy would mean to the team.

“It has been awhile since we have won some silverware so bringing this trophy home would showcase our commitment and our resilience in recent months.  Winning this trophy would highlight the talent that this team has and the potential we have for next year’s league title”

Finally

“A huge thank you to Jason and Maurice for their commitment to the group and their dedication to helping us grow as players. Another huge thank you to all our supporters who have stuck with us through the highs and lows. Over the past few weeks this team has put in a huge effort with training and other competitions. This is a repeat of last year’s cup final and we are looking forward to facing our rivals once again”
