It was our first game since November but to say that was the reason for the defeat would be unfair on a Newport side who battled hard and gave us no time to play at all. We created very little from open play but had several excellent chances from free kicks and corners which no one could get a touch on from very close range. Newport themselves probably didn’t create a lot of good goal scoring chances but they took the lead shortly after half time when a cleared ball from a corner was hit from the edge of the box and it squirmed its way to the corner of the net for which would eventually prove to be the winner.
As much as we huffed and puffed for the rest of the game we could not get level. All is not lost yet but more accomplished performances from all will have to follow to get back on track. A word of praise for Kristian O Gorman who was outstanding in midfield all through.
