Charleville AFC 4 Herberstown 0
Scorers Beth Stapleton x2, Kelly McNamara and Chloe O Brien
On the last Sunday in February, Charleville Ladies luck in this season campaign began to change.
The Charleville Ladies entertained Limerick City outfit Herberstown Ladies in Tim Fitzgerald Park and claimed their first win and clean sheet of the season, and a second round away tie to league rivals Abbeyfeale in 2 weeks time.
Charleville started the game at a fierce pace, but it was Herberstown who had the first good chance on goal after a thirty yard free kick was sailing to the top corner but saved by the strong hands of Charleville goalie Amy Jenks. Herberstown didn’t have too many clear cut chances after that as Charleville dominated and control to game until the final whistle.
On 21 minutes Charleville took the lead through some good intricate passing play out of defence found Chloe O Brien on the left wing, played an infield pass to Mairead Shinnick on the half turn switched the field of play to Kaylee Stapleton on the right wing who passed it first time on the spin in behind for Beth Stapleton as the sisters teamed up. Beth was clear on goal slotted it cooly into corner of the net.
Kelly McNamara scored the second goal after 30 mins As Herberstown tried to break out of the back with the ball, Kelly seized on the opportunity in a 50/50 tackle and pounced on the loose ball to slot under the keepers leg a well deserved individual goal. The half ended with Charleville having a comfortable 2 goal lead.
Beth Stapleton got her second goal and third goal of the game on 80 mins After a ball over the top, Chloe O Brien was the first to react and got on to the ball in behind deep in the Herberstown half as she pulled the ball back leaving the defender on the floor, she crossed the ball into the box for Beth Stapleton to get her second of the game. Chloe O Brien sealed the game off with a goal in the 88th minute, Once again another ball over the top allowing Chloe O Brien to break on to and on this occasion she finished it off to the back of the net.
A solid and comfortable performance all round by the squad gave them a swift passage to round 2.
