Herbertsown 1 Charleville AFC 1

This was a fantastic game of end to end football with great skills on display by both teams. Both sides have shown great progression since meeting earlier in the season.

Lucy Keane deputised in goals and put in a flawless and composed performance. Our defensive line is improving with every game and their tactical awareness was excellent, limiting Herbertstown to very few chances. Our attacking play on the wings from Stephanie O’Toole and Hazel Mortell in particular was exciting to watch and our midfield worked tirelessly and dominated the midfield sector for long spells of the game. It was difficult to find an opening in front of goal with the Herbertstown keeper always quick off her line to quench our attacks.

It looked like the girls had the lead mid-way through the second half but the goal was ruled off side. Finding the net lifted the confidence and after several promising attacks Orlaith McCauliffe unleashed an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net to put the girls 1-0 in front. Just when it looked like the game was won Herbertstown scored an equally unstoppable shot against the run of play to level up an enthralling contest which neither side deserved to lose.
