Last Saturday evening our youths played their 4th league match against Regional B.
On a cold rainy night the boys put out a dominant display to come away with a 3-0 win and 3 points. 35 minutes in, Matt McCormack opened the scoring with a sensational solo goal picking the ball up near the halfway line and breaking through the regional defence before curling a beauty into the top left. This helped the lad’s momentum as it led to another goal 5 minutes later from Cillian Quinn as he volleyed home a low driven shot from a corner which evaded everyone before falling to Cillian who finished clinically into the bottom right.
They boys went into the half time break 2-0 up and in a comfortable position with Kian Smith making a couple of smart saves, the back four of Shay Moloney, Eoin O Connor, Jack Fitzgibbon and Blake Doherty holding it tight at the back while also playing some good football out from the back. The defence was well supported with Aaron Moffatt in the defensive midfield role who linked the play from back to front along with Cillian Quinn and Colin Quaid pulling the strings in the middle of the field. The attack was well equipped with a front three of Darragh McDonagh, Dion Curtin and Matt McCormack all torturing the regional defence with some lovely link up play. Following the half time break, three substitutes were made with Cody Kok replacing Darragh McDonagh, Gareth Gleeson coming in for Aaron Moffatt and Adam O Connor was introduced for Shay Moloney. Mid way through the second half, Matt McCormack increased Charleville’s lead to 3 and his own tally to 2 with a powerful strike from outside the box leaving the keeper unable to keep it out as it bounced over the line. The game was seen out by the much changed team in the second period with Cody Kok and Gareth Gleeson having joy down the wings, Adam O Connor putting in a solid performance at right back and also a mention to Dion Curtin who stepped in goals for Kian Smith to allow him some time outfield at centre back. Overall, a comprehensive victory for our youths who now look forward to big games in the cup competitions.
