Sunday 30th January

Caledonians FC 1-5 Charleville AFC

Scorers: Shane Dillon 2, Luke Doyle, Darren Casey, Eoin Clifford

On Sunday morning last, Charleville AFC travelled to Caledonians of league 1B for a Lawson Cup 2nd round tie.

As expected by most Charleville were on top of their lower league opposition from the start and were dominating possession without carrying a huge goal threat until Cian McNamara played in Darren Casey for the opening goal on 30 mins, however within 5 minutes the hosts were back on level terms firing past goalkeeper David O’Riordan after latching onto a misplaced pass in the Charleville back line. Just on the stroke of half time, man of the match Luke Doyle cut in from the right-hand side and curled a fantastic shot into the top corner of the Cals net to hand Charleville the half time lead.

The 2nd half started well for Charleville, and it wasn’t long before Shane Dillon got his first of the game, expertly lobbing the onrushing Cals goalkeeper for 3-1. Substitute Eoin Clifford grabbed the 4th finishing well from a tight angle before Dillon scored his 2nd and Charleville’s 5th after being played in by Ciarain Carey.

Charleville move on to the 3rd round where they face a home tie vs the winners of Newport vs Brazuca.
