Charleville 2 : 3 Holycross,

Charleville narrowly lost out to Holycross, in a thriller of a game in fantastic conditions at Moat vile on Saturday. The Charleville squad on the day was Alex Kennedy, Danielle Mackissey, Daire McKenna, Tiernan Walsh (Captain), Eoin Horan, Sean Fearn, Cian Finucane, Evan O’Riordan, Xaviour Nelligan, Ben Ross, Josh McGloughlin, Nathaniel Methumbu, Evan O’Brien, Dara O’Sullivan, Leon Reidy, Oisin Curley & Gavin Hughes.

There was plenty of quality football throughout, in a game that was a great advert for juvenile soccer in the Limerick County League.

Charleville got off to a bad start and resulting from some confusion at the back conceded an early goal, however typical of this group, fought back and finished the first half 2-1 up, Charleville levelled up shortly after conceding following a period of extended pressure, ending in a well taken goal from Ben Ross.

Charleville’s best spell was in the remainder of the first half, combined with some disciplined defending and excellent passing moves, the second goal followed when Sean Fearn got on the end of a great passing move and rifled a shot to the top right hand corner, a goal of the season contender!

Holycross, came out in the second half and were physically dominant, while our boys matched them and gave their all throughout, we conceded two well taken goals on the break, losing in the end 3:2, it was a great performance by all concerned and will provide plenty of learning opportunities for the boys in the season ahead.

Best of luck to Holycross for the remainder of the season.
