Limerick district premier A league
Charleville AFC 5-0 Corbally United
Shane Dillon 3, Sean McCormack, Luke Doyle
Captain Gavin Mullins failed a pre-match fitness test and was replaced in the starting line-up by Darren Butler with Ciarain Carey moving to left back, the other change to the team from the previous game saw Luke Doyle replace the suspended Pa O’Callaghan in attack.
Corbally United settled into the game far quicker than Charleville and looked dangerous going forward, however the Charleville defence well marshalled by Butler and co kept chances to a minimum, and O’Riordan in the home goal had a fairly quiet 1st half considering all the Corbally possession and territory.
It was in fact Charleville who opened the scoring on the stroke of half time, after Cian McNamara had broken through a number of Corbally challenges in midfield to play striker Luke Doyle in on goal, Doyle lifted the ball over the on rushing visiting goalkeeper to hand Charleville a slender half time lead.
After half time Charleville improved immensely and 2 goals in 10 minutes straight after half time took the game away from the visitors, Shane Dillon crashed the ball home from close range for 2-0 and a few minutes later Sean McCormack headed home a Dillon corner for 3-0.
Substitutes Jack O’Callaghan and Darren Casey were then introduced for their first appearances of the season and both made a real impact with O’Callaghan picking passes in midfield alongside Joe Kavanagh and Casey providing pace in the wide areas. It wasn’t long before Dillon grabbed his 2nd of the game lobbing the goalkeeper after being put in on goal, and then in the final minute Dillon completed his hat-trick rounding the goalkeeper after a fine defence splitting pass from another substitute, Jason O’Hara.
This result saw Charleville move up to 2nd in the table behind current league leaders Farview B’s.
