On Sunday morning last we travelled to Roxboro in Limerick to play at the temporary home of Parkville while their own grounds undergo some maintenance work. Unfortunately for both sides the pitch wasn’t in great condition having taken on a lot of rain, making it impossible to cut the high grass in advance of this fixture. A lot of changes again to our line up all enforced and beyond our control, Joseph O’Connell deputizing in goals, Alan McCourt was filling in at center back beside Shane O’Hara, Jack Kavanagh and young Adam O’Connor starting at full backs. Our midfield was David O’Connell and Eoghan Buckley with Calvin Curtin returning after 6 years and youth team player Matthew McNamara making his junior debut, Up front 2 more youth players Matthew McCormack, another debutant and Cody Kok with Dylan O’Donoghue starting on the bench.
One nil down at half time after a very even first half, Charleville enjoyed a lot of possession and looked comfortable on the ball with the youth players showing their class with neat, confident touches.
Our starting eleven players had an average age of just 20 years of age, although the result went against us the players should realize how well they done for long periods of the game against a far more experienced team. We’ll continue to take the positives from these performances from such a young group.
