Charleville AFC -B 5 Corbally Utd 0
Scorers Charlie O’Mahony 3 and 1 each for Shay Noonan and Noah Finn
It was the 2nd round of the under 13 national cup and we welcomed Corbally to Fitzgerald Park. It was some of the lads first game together but that did not matter as the team were able to adapt brilliantly to the situation. In need of a goalkeeper, we called up Shane O’Donnell from the under 12s and was able make some great saves and kept a clean sheet on his debut. He made the defence feel very comfortable as of his great goalkeeping skills.
The first half was very even but the lads always seemed comfortable. We created many chances due to the creativity from the attack. We missed many chances but were able to rebound with a great goal. Once Noah Finn got the ball there was no stopping him and managed to create a brilliant chance for Charlie O’ Mahony he put in the back of the net. Corbally reacted well from conceding the goal by putting much pressure on our defence but due to strong tackles from Martin Moloney, this did not worry us. The attack never stopped however as of our two great fullbacks who never put a foot wrong throughout the match.
We had the top tackler Josh Coffey on the left and the skilful Neil Boyle on the right. We added much pressure to other team defence and by doing this we managed to win a penalty by David O’Brien. David took the penalty and unfortunately missed but came brilliantly by getting an assist in the 2nd half. We then into break 1 nil up and made a few subs to hopefully impact the game. We brought on Fionn Moffat to pressure the other team attack in which was he very successful. Charlie Collins also came on and his work rate was phenomenal and much benefit to the attack.
Throughout the 2nd half we created many chances thanks to Lewis Fennesy eye for pass. The midfielder was excellent throughout the match making some excellent passes. A brilliant run from David O’Brien set up Charlie second goal. In quick concession we manged to get a third goal due to a brilliant strike from Noah finn. We relied so much on our midfielders such as Mazen Ayman who would never stop running and made some vital tackles. Our other midfielder Tymon whose pace caused a lot trouble for the Corbally defenders aided our attack a lot in search for another goal.
Even when winning our defence was put under pressure but the strong Tomas O’ Riordan was able to handle this brilliantly by making tackles and a few key dribbles. Charlie completed his hattrick by scoring a goal just outside the box. At the end of the match, we brought on Mark Boyle whose tackling and passes did not go unnoticed. We then got a corner and super sub–Shay Noonan scored an excellent goal. Keep it up lads.
