Newport 2 Charleville AFC 0

We travelled to Newport on Sunday afternoon for our first match in a month, playing conditions soon turned bad with heavy rain and high winds. Charleville started the stronger of the teams creating some good scoring chances for Dylan from open play and Jack after a set piece but we failed to find the back of the net on both occasions. After a relatively quiet start for our goalkeeper he found himself picking the ball from his own net after we lost possession cheaply, high up the pitch, when we were pushed up for a set piece. We still had the opportunity to prevent the goal but we hesitated to clear the ball from our defence leaving our keeper exposed for the opening goal. Again a lack of concentration gifted our opponents the easiest of finishes.  Weather conditions improved in the second half and we settled again having a lot of possession, dictating the game. Daniel and Shane played well at the back in a new partnership, Ciarain, Eoghan and Keith were winning a lot of ball moving forward to support Dylan as much as possible. As time ticked on we committed more players to find an equaliser but a Newport attack resulted in an own goal after a last ditch attempt to clear our lines. This fixture was a missed opportunity for Charleville, now onto our next match at home v Cals on Sunday morning.
