Charleville AFC 1 Caledonians 1
Scorer Eoghan Buckley
Cals came to Tim Fitzgerald Park on Sunday morning last in need of points just as much as us. It has been the case for most of this season, our team selection was down to the minimum again, thankfully we got help from some of our u17 and U18 members. Adam O’Connor completed his first 90 minutes in junior soccer with a very solid and creative performance going forward on the right wing and covering back when needed. He was very unlucky not to score a goal on his full debut but he can take great confidence from this performance for future matches. Also coming on as substitutes for their debuts today were Cody Kok and Fionn O’Connor. Cody was a big threat for us up front with his quick feet taking on the defenders at every opportunity, a very positive performance, he too was unlucky not to score but no doubt he will the next day, Fionn was very comfortable when introduced in his midfield role and covered the ground very well. For such a young man he wasn’t fazed one bit by the challenge. We are delighted to be able to offer our u17 and U18 boys a pathway into junior soccer to help them to develop even further. Also making a return to the club in this fixture was Thomas Fitzgibbon, sitting into midfield like a duck to water. He defied his age with a very polished performance over the 90 minutes and created a lot of chances for us, he too was unlucky not to score just before half time. Though we were quite comfortable in the first half we still gave away a needless penalty to go in at half time 1 nil down. To the boys credit they came out with a great second half performance with Eoghan Buckley scoring the equaliser from a free kick. After this it was all Charleville and how we didn’t score a winner I don’t know. Dylan O’Donoghue coming closest hitting the butt of the post from distance, and later we had another great chance cleared off the line by the Cals defender. Great effort and spirit in the team for this game onto our next match away v Parkville on Sunday morning.
