Charleville AFC v Murroe U14 Boys Premier League
Charleville u14’s kicked off their league campaign on Friday night against Murroe, with a hard fought 6-1 win in perfect conditions at Tim Fitzgerald Park.
While Charleville dominated possession in the first half, Murroe were very well organised and resilient and with 2 quick goals just before half time, went in at the break 2 nil up, Charleville took the lead following a superb cross from Josh Mcloughlin on the right, met with great composure by Dara O’Sullivan at the far post as he passed the ball into the net, this was quickly followed by a second scored by Ben Ross, assisted by Cian Finucane.
Charleville continued to play their football and it was pleasing to watch the boys continue to pass the ball to feet, Ben Ross made it three following a through ball from Cian Finucane, Cian made it 4 shortly after with a long range shot, Ben Ross got his hat trick shortly afterwards converting a penalty. Ben subsequently put Josh through for the 6th, capping off 2 great debut’s for Ben & Josh.
Murroe scored from a corner during the second half a goal their performance merited.
Alex Kennedy, while not very busy on the night, was always swiftly off his line when called upon, our back 4 were a solid unit on the night, captained by Tiernan Walsh, with his centre back partner Daire Mckenna always comfortable on the ball, our 2 full backs Eoin Horan & Daniel Mackissey were a constant threat to Murroe on the night, with their runs down the wing and were always available for a pass.
Evan O’Riordan and Jamie O’Toole provided great cover and support in midfield always available for a pass and playing the ball forward at every opportunity. The match also provided the opportunity for both Oisin Curley and Leon Reidy to make their debuts, both Oisin and Leon acquitted themselves very well, well done boys.
What a highlight it was to see boys back playing soccer and expressing themselves playing the game the right way, we’d like to thank Murrow for their sporting play and the Charleville committee for having the pitch in such immaculate condition.
Well done to the management and talented squad. Scorers for Charleville AFC were Dara O’Sullivan, Ben Ross hat trick, Cian Finucane & Josh McGloughlin.
