Charleville opened their league season with a hard-fought win away to Newport Town. After a slow start by both sides, it was Charleville who took the lead through Shane Dillon before Ciarain Carey doubled the lead with a header from a Dillon corner. Just before half time Newport struck back with a goal of their own whilst Carey was off the field getting treatment for a facial injury.
Newport drew themselves level midway through the 2nd half only for Shane Dillon to curl in a free kick almost immediately after from 25 yards. With the hosts pushing for an equaliser, Cian McNamara scored his first of the season and Charleville’s 4th of the game to seal the 3 points.
